Welcome to another episode of the Health for the Spirit, Soul, and Body Blog from Doxa Missions. Today, we’re exploring an exciting topic: How the IF-THIS-THEN-THAT principle can boost your faith. You may have encountered this principle in computing, math, or daily problem-solving, but did you know it’s also a powerful way to think about God’s promises? Let’s dive in and see how applying this logic can help us more confidently trust in God’s Word.

What Is the IF-THIS-THEN-THAT Principle?

A. Definition in Computing and Mathematics

In the world of computing and mathematics, the IF-THIS-THEN-THAT principle is a simple logical structure. It works like this: IF a certain condition is true, THEN a specific result will follow. For example: IF you preheat the oven to the correct temperature and bake the cake for the specified time, THEN you can expect a perfectly baked cake. This concept is at the core of how computers make decisions, how formulas operate, and even how we make decisions in life.

B. Everyday Examples

We use this principle all the time, often without realizing it:

  • Smart devices use this logic—IF a motion sensor detects someone at the door, THEN the security camera starts recording.

  • In math, IF a specific formula condition is met, THEN the answer follows logically.

What’s beautiful is that this same logical framework can be applied to something much more powerful: our faith in God’s Word.

God’s Word as the Foundation of the IF-THIS-THEN-THAT Principle

In the Bible, God gives us promises that are as reliable as mathematical truths. His Word is the "IF" condition. IF God says something, THEN we can trust that the result will follow. It’s that simple. Let’s explore how this works in action.

Biblical Examples of the IFTTP Principle in Action

1. Faith and the Power of Speaking to Obstacles

In Mark 11:23 (KJV), Jesus says:"For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith."

Here’s the IF-THIS-THEN-THAT structure in action:

  • IF you speak to the mountain in faith without doubting, THEN it will be moved.

Jesus is teaching us that our words, spoken in faith, have real power. But the key is not just saying the words—it’s believing without doubt that what God has said will happen.

2. God Cannot Lie, Therefore His Promises Stand

Titus 1:2 (KJV) says:"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."

The Bible is clear: God does not lie. IF God promises something, THEN we can expect it to come to pass. This truth has carried me through many challenges in life. When I’ve faced financial difficulty, I’ve stood on Psalm 37:25 (KJV):"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread."

When I’ve prayed, I’ve declared: IF the Bible says the righteous will never be forsaken, THEN God will provide for me and my family. And time after time, God has shown Himself faithful, just as He did for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Paul.

3. Jesus Christ Is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever

Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) says:"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."

This verse reveals an unchanging truth about Jesus: the way He showed compassion, healed, provided, and saved in the past is the same way He operates today.

  • IF Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, THEN we can trust that He will act in our lives with the same love and power He showed in the Gospels.

  • When we understand how Jesus treated people in the Bible—with compassion, forgiveness, and healing—we can confidently believe that He will do the same for us today.

Applying the IFTTP Principle to Daily Life

How do we put this principle into practice when life gets challenging? Here are some practical steps:

  1. Find a Promise in Scripture: Dig into the Bible to find a promise that addresses your situation.

  2. Identify the “IF” and “THEN” Statements: Understand the condition God is presenting and what outcome you can expect.

  3. Believe and Act in Faith: Faith isn’t just passive—it requires belief and action. Speak the promise, pray over it, and live as if you expect the result.

  4. Be Patient and Persistent: Faith often involves waiting, but God’s timing is perfect. Don’t give up if the answer isn’t immediate.

For example:

  • IF God says He will never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5), THEN I can face difficulties without fear, knowing I am not alone.

  • IF I seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), THEN He will provide all my needs.

Testimonies of God’s Faithfulness

I’ve experienced this firsthand many times. When my finances were stretched thin as a parent, I reminded myself of Psalm 37:25 and God’s faithfulness to His people throughout Scripture. I trusted that the same God who provided for His children in the past would provide for me. And He did. Unexpected opportunities came, needs were met, and my family was taken care of.

God’s Word works. IF He has done it before, THEN He can do it again.

Strengthening Faith through Biblical IF-THEN Promises

Here are a few powerful IF-THEN statements from Scripture to meditate on:

  • IF you delight yourself in the Lord, THEN He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).

  • IF you sow generously, THEN you will reap generously (2 Corinthians 9:6).

  • IF you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, THEN you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

As you meditate on these promises, allow them to build your faith. God’s Word is true and reliable.

Walking Confidently in Faith

The IF-THIS-THEN-THAT principle can boost your faith by giving you a clear, logical framework for trusting God’s promises. Just like in computing or mathematics, when the “IF” condition is met (God’s Word), the “THEN” outcome is guaranteed.

So, what promise do you need to stand on today? Find it, speak it, and believe it. Trust that God is faithful, and you’ll see His Word come alive in your life.
