Welcome to another episode of the Health for the Spirit, Soul, and Body Blog from Doxa Missions. Today, we're looking at the essential topic of faith—specifically, how you can expand your measure of faith to unlock profound spiritual growth. This foundational concept can transform your spiritual journey, bringing you closer to God and strengthening your ability to navigate life's challenges.
Faith as a Gift from God
Faith is an extraordinary gift from God. The apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:8 makes it clear: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." This verse emphasizes that faith isn't something we can manufacture on our own; it's a gracious gift bestowed upon us by a loving God. This indicates that faith originates from God's grace.
Romans 12:3 further illuminates this point, revealing that God has distributed a measure of faith to every individual: "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." This indicates that the potential for faith resides within us all.
Moreover, Romans 10:17 explains that faith grows through interaction with the Word of God: "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Engaging with scripture is essential for the sustenance and strengthening of our faith. By immersing ourselves in God's Word, we allow our faith to flourish.
The Substance of Faith
What exactly is faith? Hebrews 11:1 provides a clear definition: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This verse transitions faith from an abstract concept to something tangible. Faith is described as the "title deed" or concrete evidence of our spiritual inheritance. It’s the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see.
Job 23:12 offers further insight into nurturing faith: "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." This verse suggests that valuing God's Word above all else is crucial for our spiritual nourishment and directly affects our faith's vitality.
Faith brings what we hope for to life; it gives substance to it. As Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) emphasizes, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This emphasizes the power of faith to manifest our hopes and spiritual realities.
You Have the Faith You Need for Your Circumstance
Even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, it is enough to move mountains on your behalf. Matthew 17:20 (KJV) states, "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
The way you expand your measure of faith when you hear the Word of God will determine the measure that you will receive. When God measures out faith to you, He’ll be using your measuring stick, not His own. Mark 4:24 reminds us, "And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you."
Two people can hear God’s Word about healing; one will measure it with faith and say, “By His stripes, I was healed! I believe that with all my heart, and I’m going to keep on believing it until I receive my healing.” The other will measure it with skepticism and say, “I don’t trust preachers. I’ll give this healing stuff a try, but I doubt very much if anything’s going to come of it.” Both of those people will get exactly what they expect. God will measure to them just as they measured the Word. One will get healed; the other won’t.
Personal Reflections on Faith
Reflecting on my Christian journey, I remember different times when my faith was tested. There were periods when I believed God with all my heart, and other times when I had doubts about His promises or what I was believing for. I've discovered that the times I received my miracle or saw my expectations fulfilled were the times I fully trusted God and did not waver in my faith. This personal experience has taught me the importance of steadfast belief and trust in God's promises.
Using Your Will to Expand Your Measure of Faith
You can use your will to influence the measure of faith for a specific situation. This can be done by making a quality decision to believe what God says about a situation no matter what happens around you and holding on to this belief regardless of the circumstances.
To expand your measure of faith:
Immerse Yourself in God's Word: Regularly read and meditate on the scriptures. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). The more you engage with the Bible, the stronger your faith will become.
Pray for Increased Faith: Ask God to increase your faith. Prayer is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and can help you overcome doubts and fears.
Surround Yourself with Faith-Building Community: Engage with fellow believers who can encourage and support you in your faith journey. Community plays a vital role in nurturing and expanding your faith.
Exercise Your Faith: Step out in faith in your daily life. Trust God in small and big decisions, and watch how He proves Himself faithful.
Hold On to God’s Promises: Memorize and declare God’s promises over your life. When challenges arise, remind yourself of His faithfulness and unwavering love.
Expanding your measure of faith is a journey and a commitment. By immersing yourself in God's Word and making a conscious decision to trust His promises, you can see the manifestation of His power in your life. Remember, even the smallest measure of faith can move mountains.
